We dream of space book7/4/2023 She did look incredible, though how on earth she would be able to endure a whole night dressed like that would be a mystery. “I can’t relax my posture,” Casey said, shifting. A few minutes later she squealed with delight when Casey drew the curtain to the side. Try it on,” she bossed her into the makeshift fitting room. “It’s Catwoman! She’s superior to all others. “This isn’t a sexy cop,” Abigail rolled her eyes. “Isn't sexy cop also a tad overdone?” Casey raised an eyebrow at the black latex suit in front of her. Come on, let’s look over here,” Abigail dragged her to a different section of the store. “Duh, it’s the defining movie of our generation. “Did you just quote Mean Girls at me?” Casey distractedly said, looking over a generic hippie chick outfit. “We’re both hot and single, we can’t miss this opportunity.” And no one can say shit about it,” Abigail had said the week before while they were downtown at a pop-up costume shop. “Casey, it’s the one night a year where girls are allowed to dress slutty. Casey’s roommate had convinced her to go to the party, determined to get her out of the dorm. She passed by a bro dressed as a nun, a scary clown, and a plethora of sexy bunnies and nurses. The frat house was aglow with hazy orange lights and smoke as Casey navigated the crowd of drunken college students toward the kitchen. The name of the wind book 27/4/2023 Just when I thought I'd connected with him wholeheartedly, he'd do something prideful, stupid, impulsive, short-sighted, or otherwise foolish and leave me wanting to shake him senseless.which is a true testament to the author's capabilities, that he was able to capture male adolescence in all of its awkward lack of glory. I had a love/annoyance relationship with Kvothe throughout much of the story. There is a raw, medieval-like candor to the world Rothfuss has created-and while he is tasteful in his depictions, they carry all the weight of an unforgiving reality. But while it's most certainly a coming-of-age story in its own right, it isn't specifically catering to the Young Adult audience. In all accuracy, the book primarily covers a span of 5 years in the life of young Kvothe-with a majority of the tale focused on age 15-16. It is the origin story of a hero and a legend, in his own words.with a sort of 'setting the record straight' sense to the approach. The Name Of The Wind is a complexly woven story within a story-with a rich tapestry of lore, poetry, and lyricism reinforcing every stitch and seam. This reviewer was recommended The Name Of The Wind by multiple fantasy connoisseurs of trustworthy caliber, and so when the chance came available, I brought it along on a lengthy road trip. Dean koontz devoted sequel7/4/2023 The first half of Devoted plays much like a thriller. Determined to take Megan with him, Lee races to get to her, no matter if she wants to join him or not. Aware that authorities will blame him, he plans to start a new life. Lee is also an old flame of Megan’s and has escaped a lab where 93 others died. The repercussions he triggers aren’t the worst threat on their way. The boy, Woody, has theories about his father’s death, and accidentally calls attention to himself while deep diving in the dark web looking for answers. And a golden retriever of extraordinary intelligence plays his part in creating a new world. The CEO of a radical experimentation lab, Lee, is on the run after a catastrophic malfunction. The plot centers on a few different characters: a non-verbal autistic boy and his mother, Megan, trying to move on after the sudden death of his father. It’s one of the few books I have finished wondering what the heck I’d just read. Written by bestselling American author Dean Koontz, this story (due for release on April 6 th 2020) is at times genuinely frightening and disturbing, and at others feels like a PG family movie. Devoted is a twisted, crazy roller coaster of a book. The Jar by Ray Bradbury7/4/2023 Jar's contents (sans liquid) started out has a life size Styrofoam manikin head I that I purchased at Hobby Lobby. Third size version but I found a two gallon specimen jar that suited my needs perfectly on eBay (where else?). The hardest part was to find a jar suitable to set up to duplicate the scene full scale. That always stayed with me and a chance reviewing of the episode inspired me to try my hand at reconstructing “The Jar”. There was a very creepy element about the story Here's a link to theĪnyway, I first saw this story on the Alfred Hitchcock Hour when I was a mere lad of 14. I won't spoil the ending for you but you can see two TV versions of the story on YouTube (the Alfred Hitchcock version is the best) or you can read the story to see how it turns out. Some memories of their past which still haunt them. When he returns home, he and the jar become the center of attention in the small community, a status,Ĭuriously, everyone that looks into the jar sees something different and/or it stirs So taken in is he with the jar and its contents, he persuades one of the carnival workers to sell to him. This woven kingdom book 37/4/2023 The main character, Alizeh, while threatened at every turn and always fearful, still makes brave choices and shows resilience. Iranian American author Mafiri adds many touches of her heritage in the naming of the characters, in setting details like the city's public baths, and in the mythology of the Jinn. Adults drink at a party and in a street gathering where they also smoke shisha (a water pipe). Sexual content is simply a kiss with some light groping and some innuendo. The goriest it gets is talk of kids' brains being eaten, which is a gross revelation but not part of the action of the story. A boy tries to kill himself with a knife rather than go to jail, and there's a story of another boy who finds his father's severed head and tries to kill himself. Characters die in just a few skirmishes with knives and swords and others are found murdered in their sleep with no marks on them. Teen readers need to be more prepared for the higher level of reading required than for a lot of mature content - the character dialogue alone will definitely boost their vocabulary. Parents need to know that Tahereh Mafi's This Woven Kingdom is the start of a fantasy series by the author of the very popular Shatter Me series.
